Charlie "Hoss" Brooks, 70, died Thursday, November 22, 2007 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at Kincannon Memorial Chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.
Charlie Brooks was born August 4, 1937 to George and Mary (Grant) Brooks in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in Altus in 1955. In 1973, he married Ollie Mae O'quinn in Vernon, Texas. He worked for years at Copeland Brothers Gulf Station on North Main. Then became a mechanic at Wilmes and retired in 2000. He was in the United States Army Reserves and retired after 30 years of service. Charlie was a member of the St. John's Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed tinkering on cars, taking care of his family and spending time with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ollie Mae, one brother, Jack Brooks, and one grandson Jawon Brooks.
He is survived by three sons Alphonso Brooks of Dallas, TX, Tomma Brooks of Dallas, TX, Terry Crowley of Altus, OK; one step-son David Cooper and wife Willie Mae of Altus, OK; three step-daughters Shirley Cooper of Lawton, OK , Delisa Cooper of Altus, OK, Joann Cooper of Washington, D.C.; three sisters Daisy Fox and husband Charles of Queens, N.Y. , Wilma Trotter and husband Aaron of Electra, TX, Ruby McClellon and husband Wendell of Altus, OK; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other friends and relatives.
