Alicia May Raltz was born to Rudy and Elba Brooks on August 7, 1931 in Yakima, Washington. She first lived in Thiesus lumber mill camp 25 miles northwest of Yakima, attending grades 1-3 in the one-room school at the mill. Uncle Sam and Aunt Mabel along with Uncle Raleigh and Aunt Juanita worked and lived in the mill camp so there were cousins and her brother, Darrell, near-by to play with.

Her parents left the mill camp and moved in with her grandparents until Rudy bought a 13 acre property high on a hill in Selah, WA where they grew 3 crops of alfalfa a year and took care of cows, pigs, and chickens. She lived near Uncle Andy and Aunt Elsie, Uncle Raleigh and Aunt Juanita, and right next door was Great-Aunt Gerty. Family commitment was instilled to her from an early age and became a life-long theme. She skipped 4th grade and finished her basic education at Selah High in 1949. The next year she attended Yakima Business College so she could save some money and start work sooner. Her first job was as a secretary for Union Gap Grade School, staying only 1 school year before getting her next secretarial job at the First Nazarene Church in Yakima where she stayed until she was married.

Alicia married Willis James Raltz on July 22, 1955 on the hottest day recorded in Yakima to date. Their honeymoon was spent camping. They started married life in a little apartment on the counterbalance of Queen Anne in Seattle, WA. She attended Green Lake Free Methodist Church and sang on the radio with the Free Methodist Light and Life Choir. Her son, Kenneth Eugene, was born in April, 1958 beginning her life-long mission of taking care of her family. The little family moved to Fremont and finally settled into their first home just off Stone Way where her 2 daughters, Darrilyn Sue and Shirley LaRayne were born in 1962 and 1963. Her family was now complete.

The family moved to Shoreline, WA in March, 1966 and was a stay at home mom, working only part-time for North City Free Methodist Church and Shoreline Day Care as their book keeper. Her full-time job was taking care of her husband and children. She made lunches, helped her kids with homework, took them to swimming lessons, little league, piano lessons, field trips, and instilled in all her kids a love of reading, travel, and gardening. She believed in giving her children the right start in life and she helped in any way she could, encouraging Ken with his early businesses, helping with the down payment of Darrilyn's first home, and paying for Shirley's undergraduate degree in nursing. Her children grew, got married, and she received the greatest gift of her life, her Granddaughter Rebekah Joy.

As she and her husband retired, they began to take excursions to Hawaii, cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, trip across the States to visit family, train trips to San Diego, and Washington DC, and numerous visits to the coast. She even went on mini-vacations with her youngest daughter, Shirley. She was always up for an adventure exploring new territory.

It was with great sadness that she passed away on May 3, 2010 after being treated for the past year for bladder cancer. She was strong, enduring much hardship over the last year but she was still fighting until the very end providing us her final lesson for all of us to learn.
