ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 14— Herbert D. Brooks Sr., father of Herb Brooks Jr., coach of the New York Rangers, died Thursday, apparently of a heart attack, while playing golf.
He was 76 years old. The senior Brooks was a longtime hockey player, coach and official in St. Paul. His son, Herb, coached the 1980 United States Olympic hockey team, which won the gold medal, before moving to the Rangers.
