BROOKS, Etta M. - Of Flint, age 88, died Sunday, February 29, 2004 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2004 at the Brown Funeral Home, 1616 Davison Rd., Rev. James Offrink officiating. Burial at Flint Memorial Park. Visitation 6-9 p.m. Thursday.
Mrs. Brooks was born October 15, 1915 in Lewisburg, KY and resided in the Flint area for most of her life. She was the daughter of William Cooke and Armitta Gardner. She married Thurman Brooks on September 14, 1934 in Angola, IN. She was a retired custodian at Grand Blanc High School. She enjoyed going to casinos and country music. One of her favorite songs was "When I Call Your Name" by Vince Gill. She loved to go on vacation every summer back to Kentucky to visit family and many friends. She graduated from Lewisburg High School. She enjoyed attending all her class reunions.
Surviving are: children, Joetta M. White and husband Buddy of Flint, Lola VanLinden and husband Ronald of Flint, Gerald W. Brooks of Flint; grandchildren, Dennis Brooks and wife Kim of CA, Debbie Dean and husband Frank of Flint, Barb VanLinden and Kevin Eastep of Flint, Diane Wiggins and husband Eddie of Mt. Morris, Michelle Anderson of Flint; great-grandchildren, Kyle, McKenna, Baylee, Dennis, Hunter, Kayla and Emily; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and many friends.
She was the greatest mother in the world and wonderful grandmother to all her grandchildren. Mom you will be greatly missed and loved forever. Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman I. Brooks on March 29, 1976; son, Denford T. Brooks on August 21, 1994; grandson, Ronnie VanLinden on March 10, 1990; her parents; and 2 brothers.
