Edmond W. Brooks, 82, Lexington, MO, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 1996, at the home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 6, at the Walker-Nadler Chapel, Lexington, MO; burial will be in Greenton Cemetery, Odessa, MO, with military services by Lexington V.F.W. Post 4052.

Mr. Brooks was born November 12, 1913, in Lexington, MO, the son of Sydney W. and Amanda Powell Brooks.

He married Mary Frances Phillips on March 8, 1941. She preceded him in death on August 6, 1995. Mr.Brooks was a member of the First Baptist Church, Lexington, MO. He served as Lafayette County Assessor from 1973 until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of Mt. Hope Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Turner's Society, American Legion and American War Dads. He was very active with the soil conservation movement in Lafayette County, beginning in the 1940's, and continuing until his death. He served as officer at both county and state levels. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the rank of Sergeant. He served on the Board of Directors at Commerce Bank in Lexington for 25 years, from 1968 to 1993.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Mary Ann Brooks, Lexington, MO; daughter, Mary M. Brooks, Warrensburg, MO; and two grandsons, both of Lexington, MO.
