She was born Oct. 6, 1910, in Atlanta, the daughter of James Earl and Fern Lown Broaddus. Mrs. Nichols received her teaching certificate from Illinois State University, Normal, in 1929. She was an elementary school teacher for 26 years. Prior to her retirement in 1969, she taught for 21 years at Pawnee Community School District. Preceding her in death was a sister, Ruby Lovens, in 1970. Mrs. Nichols was a member of Chatham United Methodist Church and Dorcas Circle of the Church. She was also a member of the Ball-Chatham Senior Citizen's Organization.
Surviving are her husband, Arley S.; one son, Sam of Springfield; one daughter, Mrs. Judith A. Pierce of Chatham; five grandchildren; one brother, Earl Broaddus of Chatham; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at Chatham United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ron Winsor officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
