Matilda Catherine Hagen Brimm Amonett, 98, of Pascagoula, Miss., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, in Providence Hospital in Mobile, Ala.

She was born Oct. 26, 1909, in Kansas City, Mo., and has been a resident of Pascagoula since 1947. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pascagoula and Life Member and past President of Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Amonett was well known for the beautiful beaded Christmas ornaments she designed, crafted and sold for many years in our community. Mrs. Amonett was a business woman, beginning before and continuing during the Depression, in Chicago, Ill., where she worked in real estate and property management. During one entire year of the Depression, she worked for 10 cents a day in an effort to retain her position with the company. Upon losing her first husband, Albert Gerald Brimm, she moved with her two sons to coastal Mississippi to be close to her parents. She later married Earl Amonett and together they owned several successful businesses in the Pascagoula- Moss Point area, including the 21 Café, 21 Bus Company and 21 Taxi Service in addition to numerous real estate interests. In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling and made several trips to Germany visiting close relatives and friends. Her contributions to her Church and community were numerous.

She is preceded in death by parents; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Emil Hagen; husbands, Albert Gerald Brimm and Earl Amonett; sister, Marie Hagen; stepson, Robert Earl Amonett; and grandson, David Keith Brimm.

She is survived by her two sons, Donald G. (Virgie) Brimm, Pascagoula; David (Elaine) Brimm, North East, Md.; eight grandchildren, Darlene (Elmer) Jeffries, Al (Jennifer) Brimm, of Pascagoula; Craig (Irina) Brimm, of Sarasota, Fla., Julie (Christian) Broadus, of Pascagoula, Sean Brimm, Christine (Rich) Hurschman, of North East Md., Karen Brimm, of Richmond, Va., Bobby (Susan) Amonett, of Vancleave, Miss.; 17 great-grandchildren, Laura (Michael) Klasky, Victoria Hood, Alexandria Hood, Joshua Dopson, Sandra Jeffries, Amanda Jeffries, Brandon Verdin; Donnie Brimm, Andrew Brimm, Barry (Jackie) Jackson, John (Paola) Pribanic, Kelli Pribanic, Maxwell Brimm; Ashton Broadus, Christopher Broadus, Devynn Whitesell, and Robert Hurschman; seven great-great-grandchildren, Aaron McElhaney, Alexia Jeffries, Savana Jackson, Ellis Walker Jackson, Mitchell Jackson, Jennifer Pribanic and Nicole Pribanic. She is also survived by her aunt, Betty Michels, of Omaha, Neb.; sister-in-law, Lula Amonett; special friend and neighbor, Mrs. Katie Cline with whom she shared afternoon tea for years; and many other close friends.

Pallbearers are Donnie Brimm, Andrew Brimm, Joshua Dopson, Christian Broadus, Elmer Jeffries and Bobby Amonett. Honorary pallbearer is Brandon Verdin.

Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula with Rosary to be recited at 8 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Michael Kelleher as Celebrant.

Interment will follow at Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula.
