John F. Brice Dies In East
Body Of Former Senator's Last Son May Be Buried In Lima
John F. Brice, 59, last surviving son of Senator Calvin S. Brice, prominent pioneer Lima lawyer, statesman and railroad promoter, died Saturday in his country home in Bristol, Pa. Death came after a brief illness, according to the telegraphic information received here.
He was born and reared in Lima and studied law under the direction of his father, who had attended Miami university, and the law school at the University of Michigan.
Altho John F. Brice later obtained a law degree from Harvard university, he never engaged actively in the profession. Brice's inclination tended more toward things mechanical, a Lima lawyer friend of his said.
Brice was a member of the Presbyterian church, a denomination in which his grandfather, William Kirkpatrick Brice, was a pastor. Brice-av in this city was named in honor of the Brice family.
Senator Brice died in New York 39 years ago, leaving three sons and two daughters. John F. Brice is survived by his widow, Polymire, and three daughters, Miss Monica, Miss Jane and Miss Kate Brice, all of New York City. He also leaves a sister, Miss Helen Brice, of New York and Newport.
Three cousins and two aunts in Lima also survive. They are Brice Selfridge, Fred R. Meily and J. Robb Meily and Mrs. George H. Meily and Mrs. J. Robb Meily.
Last rites for Brice are to be held Tuesday in the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian church, New York. The body probably will be brought to Lima for burial.
