Over the years, he was very active in the community as a member of the Sturgeon Bay Jaycees, the Elks Club, the Optimist Club, and the Home Builders Association. He was also a life-time member of the Wisconsin Land Surveyor Association. Ken served as an alderman and city council president in Sturgeon Bay for several years. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, boating and sailing the Great Lakes with his son. Ken was an avid reader and card player. He also enjoyed wintering in Texas.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn, Sturgeon Bay; three children, Mary Ellen (Paul) Dreutzer, Sturgeon Bay; Thomas G. Brey, Sturgeon Bay; Jennifer J. Berg, Mountain View, CA; their mother, Marcia (Wayne) Owens, Mosinee; three step-grandchildren, Amy Emmer, Green Bay; Matthew (Shelly) Emmer, DePere; Kimberly (Leon) Guthrie, Fort Worth, TX; one grandson, Aaron Brey; seven step-grandchildren, Nathan, Jaclyn, Isabella, Max, Sam, Ethan, and Lauren; two brothers, Edwin (Lee) Brey, Manitowoc; John (Sharon) Brey, Manitowoc; and several nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Julie Golding; and one nephew, Matthew Brey.
A celebration of Life will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, September 15, 2013, at the Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Rev. Carl Schmitt officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Door County Maritime Museum. obituary Door County Daily News.
