With her sister, Mary Kate, she contributed to George Washington Cable's, Home Culture Club monthly newsletter, "The Letter". In 1896, it became "Symposium" magazine and the sisters continued to contribute.
Studied at Oxford University 1906-1907
In December 1924, she became the first woman on the Board of Trustees of Forbes Library, Northampton; she served on the board from Dec 1924 to Dec 1957.

Miss Brewster, Former Teacher, Succumbs at 97
Miss Anna Gertrude Brewster, 97, of 234 Elm St, died at Cooley Dickinson Hospital Saturday night.
One of the city's most beloved teachers, she was known to generations of high school students. She taught English at Northampton High School for 33 years, beginning in 1907. She served as a trustee of Forbes Library also for 33 years, leaving that post in 1957.
Born in Northampton, Sept. 25, 1869, she was the daughter of Maj. Charles and Anna Williams Brewster. She attended public schools in Northampton, Smith College and St. Anne's College, Oxford University, England.
Miss Brewster taught in Nashua, N.H. and was a charter member of the Betty Allen Chapter of D.A.R. for Northampton.
During her 33 years at Northampton High School, she was the head of the English Department and the dean of girls.
A Children's room at Forbes Library has been named after her. She received various distinguished citizenship awards from the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Northampton Alumni Association. Following retirement from Northampton High School, she was a librarian and a teacher at the Northampton School for Girls.
She leaves two sisters, Miss Caroline W. Brewster and Mrs. Karl B. Allured both of Northampton, and two nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at St. John's Episcopal Church Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Charles Tyler officiating. Following cremation, she will be buried in Bridge St. Cemetery. The Charles R. Button [should be Dutton] funeral home is in charge of arrangements and there will be no calling hours.
