Bill was born June 26, 1929, in Anaconda, Montana to WIlliam and Kathleen Brennan. On July 2, 1949, he married the former Stella Freitas in Oakland, California. Bill was a member of the United States Marine Corps and served two years during the Korean War. He was employed by the Oakland Tribune for 43 years, starting as an apprentice and working his way up to lead the press room before he retired in 1991. Bill was a huge 49er fan, even giving his son the middle name of Hugh, after Hugh McElhenny, running back for the Niners in the 1950's. He was an avid gardener and was exceptionally proud of his rose garden - even once boasting of his "49er" rose just to annoy his son-in-law, a Cowboy fan ;) He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his children, grandchildren and he especially loved family gatherings - BIll was the life of the party.
Bill is survived by his wife Stella of 66 years and his daughter Tammy. He was preceded in death by his son Terry, his sister Caroline and his brother Lyle.
A small family service will be held at 10:30am, May 19, 2016 at Oakmont Memorial Park.
To honor Bill, a small donation will be accepted by the family to use for a commemorative brick in the Cowden Rose Garden, at The Gardens, at Heather Farm.
