AGED BROTHER AND SISTER ARE CALLED BY DEATH ON SAME DAY
JESSE BRELAND died at his home on the upper part of Big Level at about the hour of 3 o'clock last Saturday morning at the advanced aged of 86 years, three months and 4 days, and was laid to rest on the following day in the cemetery at Big Level Church, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. R.N. Davis, being attended by the largest crowd ever assembled there on a funeral occasion.
'Uncle Jim,' as he was known to every one for many miles around, was born in what is now Perry County, and had lived in the immediate vicinity all the years of his life.
He leaves an aged wife, seven children, one son and six daughters, 46 grand children, and 52 great grand children, to mourn his departure. He also leaves four brothers and one sister, all of advanced age, and nephews and nieces beyond the power of this writer to enumerate.
Ordinarily there is nothing unusual in the peaceful death of a man who has lived to the ripe age of four score and six years, but this one was made so by the death of an elder sister, Mrs. SARAH ANN FAIRLEY, which occurred some six or eight hours later on the same day.
"Aunt Sarah Ann," whose home was at Leaf, Perry County, was a few months past 91 years of age and was stricken suddenly while visiting at the home of Loami Breland, a relative.
She had been a widow for many years, was also well known in the community, having lived there all her life, and besides four brothers and sister spoken of above, she leaves a great number of descendants.
We would like to recount here some of the characteristics and accomplishments of these two old people, but it would be too much like writing a book. The above facts and figures are sufficient to reveal a record that few at this day can hope to duplicate.
