Hello,

It is family tradition that Lucinda's first child, Henry Nathaniel
Groom, b. 9-12-1835 in Russell Co., AL, was born out of wedlock.
Lucinda was about age 20 at that time. The first name of Henry was
shared by that son and Lucinda's husband, Henry Brantley. That has
caused some speculation that H. Brantley might have fathered the child
but could not marry Lucinda until 7-28-1844.

However, Henry N. Groom was 9 years old when they married. He lived
his entire life as a Groom and never used the Brantley surname. And
Henry Brantley was believed to be born 1819 in NC, meaning he was only
15 or 16 when Lucinda's son was born in 1835.

Also, Henry Brantley married Lucinda in Russell Co., about 5 months
before the birth of her second child, Charles Groom Brantley, b.
1-12-1845. If those dates are correct she was about 4 months pregnant
at the time.

The list of children, birth dates, and spouses is below.

Henry Nathaniel Groom, b. 9-12-1835, married Susan Bauchman,
6-24-1868. He was in the Army during the WBTS and was at Ships Island,
MS. Henry and Susan moved to TX and are buried at Center Hill Cemetey,
Oakhurst, TX. That cemetery is in San Jacinto Co. now but the county
line changed at some time in the past.

Here are Lucinda's 7 children with Henry BRANTLEY.
