Daughter of John Withrow and Mary ("Polly") Burnet Etherington, both of North Carolina.

Born Dorcus R. Withrow or Witherow in South Carolina, she went by Darcus after marrying and moving to Mississippi.

Darcus R. Withrow and Joseph L. Brannon married on Sep. 18, 1834, in Lumpkin County Georgia. They had two children not linked below:
• Lucy Ann Brannon, born ~1847 in Mississippi, married David J. Azlin on Sep. 1, 1874 in Yalobusha County, last alive in the 1910 census.
• Jenette Brannon, born ~1856 in Mississippi, last alive in the 1860 census.
