I had the pleasure and joy of working with Edna during the 1970s. We all had electric typewriters, but Edna preferred to type on her original manual typewriter. She even used her original chair. I had the honor of attending her retirement party in 1976, and besides the many other presents given to her, she was jokingly presented with her typewritter and chair, which she gladly took.

Sitting with her at lunch all those years ago, I was amazed when watching her eat an apple. She would eat it core and all, then look at the stem, and pop that into her mouth and eat it too, proclaiming it was "good ruffage!"

Edna had no children of her own, but she had many "daughters" at the insurance company, and during our years working together, I was happy to be one of them!

Obituary from the Sheboygan Press:

Edna M. Bramstedt, age 98, a resident of Sunny Ridge Nursing Center, died Tuesday June 16, 2009 at Sunny Ridge.

She was born in the Town of Herman on October 23, 1910, a daughter of the late Jacob J. and Alma (Voss) Spindler.

She attended elementary school in Ada and was a 1928 graduate of Kiel High School, later attending Sheboygan Business College.

On December 30, 1939, Edna Spindler and Henry Bramstedt Jr. were united in marriage at Bethel United Church of Christ in Ada. The couple lived in Erdman all of their married life. Henry preceded her in death on September 25, 2007.

Edna was a former member of Faith United Church of Christ in Erdman and was currently a member of the Zion Covenant Church in Sheboygan.

Edna began working at the former Heritage Mutual Insurance Company in Franklin (now known as Acuity) in 1930, continuing to work at the insurance office after marriage. The office was moved to Sheboygan in 1960, where she worked full time until her retirement in January of 1976. Edna was proud to be a part of the Heritage Insurance Company, pointing out that she was the second "office girl", Mary Lindsay of Kiel was the first.

Surviving Edna are her nephews; Orlynn (Sue Ann) Bramstedt of Howards Grove, Allan (Donna) Bramstedt, Town of Herman, Dale (Kathleen) Bramstedt of rural Kiel, Dennis (Cynthia) Bramstedt, Town of Herman, Ronald (Joann) Bramstedt of rural Kiel and Daniel (Mary) Spindler of Park Ridge, IL; three nieces, Janice (Roger) Lieffring of the Town of Sheboygan, Lori (Mark) Feldmann of Elkhart Lake, Marlene (Robert) Ruh, Town of Rhine; a sister-in-law, Lavera Bramstedt of Howards Grove; as well as great-nephews and -nieces, great-great-nephews and -nieces.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Walter; two brothers-in-law, Roman and Willard; a sister-in-law, Winona Bramstedt; and a brother and sister-in-law, Walter (Florence) Spindler.

A Funeral Service was held for Edna on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. at Zimmer's Westview Funeral & Cremation Care Center. Reverend Dr. Steve Pedersen, Pastor of Zion Evangelical Covenant Church of Sheboygan, officiated. A memorial fund has been established to Zion Evangelical Covenant Church in Edna's name.

The Bramstedt family would like to thank the caring staff and nurses on the 3rd floor of Sunny Ridge Nursing Home for the loving care Edna received as a resident.
