Dorothy Allee, winner of '90 Jefferson Award for community service

Marshall, Ind.--Dorothy Bradley Allee, long active in civic, religious and economic affairs in Parke County, died Friday in her home near Marshall. She was 62 years old.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. March 10 in Bloomingdale Friends Meeting.

Calling will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday in the Butler Funeral Home, Rockville.

Last year, "The Indianapolis Star" named her a Jefferson Award winner for her contributions to fellow citizens.

Abandoning a dream to become a nurse, she devoted her life to being a wife, mother, homemaker, country store operator and a minister of the Religious Society of Friends, an outgrowth of her activity in the Friends Meeting of Bloomingdale.

Mrs. Allee taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and served as clerk of the ministry and council and was secretary of the Western Yearly Meeting Board of Ministry.

A native of Parke County, she was a board member of Parke County, Inc., the county's promotional organization, and was director of tour guides for the Parke County Covered Bridge and Maple Syrup festivals. She was past president of the Federated Women's Club.

Active in the American Cancer Society, Mrs. Allee was involved in the Reach and Recovery program for cancer patients, conducting classes on self-examination in schools and for women's groups.

She was also active in the county historical society, where she presented programs in quilt making, local history and geology. Her animal and Indiana artifacts often were put on display.

Mrs. Allee was a reading tutor, aided Indiana State University in history workshops and was chairwoman of the Parke County Federation's Stationery Art Contest.

She had been a member of the county choir and was past president of the Parke County Band.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Parke and Vermillion Hospice Association, of which she was executive director; Friends Meeting of Bloomingdale; or the American Cancer Society.

Survivors: husband, Allen Allee; daughter, Nanci Shepard; sons, Kirk, Neil and Bruce Allee; eight grandchildren.
