Crit C. Bradley, son of Thomas A. Bradley and Angeline Venable-Bradley, was born July 8, 1875 and departed this life Dec 29, 1966 at the age 91 yrs., 5 mos., and 21 days. He was born near Ohio Post Office in St. Clair Co., Mo. He moved with his parents to a farm in Henry Co., MO near Quarles when a lad and attended the Union Grade School. Though his mother passed away when he was 12 yrs. old the family remained together until the boys were old enough to start making their own way. When only 16 yrs. of age, Crit became an employee of Mr. Hinton, a farmer in the Shawnee Mound (south and west of the Shawnee store) community. He was a trustworthy employee; proven many times by the bond of friendship and confidence which existed between these two as long as Mr. Hinton lived. It was while he was employed on this farm that he met Miss Ida May Nelson who made her home with the Deighton's who lived on the adjoining (north) farm. They were married Jan. 11, 1905 and enjoyed almost 62 years of marital life together. One son, Allen D. blessed this union. Allen departed this life Sept. 13, 1955. Mr. and Mrs. Bradley lived in the Shawnee Mound Community (except for 4 years spent in Kansas) until 1953 when they retired from farming and moved to Clinton, MO. Mr. Bradley began attending the Shawnee Mound Cumberland Presbyterian Church in May, 1891 and placed his membership there 3 yrs. later. He had maintained his membership and had served his church first as Deacon and then was ordained as Elder in 1944. His death closes a family history as he was the last of a family of two girls and four boys. His life exemplified all that one could desire. In his home there was love, sympathy, godliness and friendliness to all about him. He enjoyed life and always tried to make life pleasant for others, especially for his grandchildren who lost their father (Allen) when he lost his son. Surviving are his wife of the home, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Matilda M. Bradley; three grandchildren, Robert & Fred of Kansas City and Mrs. Hershel (Dorothy) Hay of Lexington, MO. He also leaves 5 great-grandchildren, a number of nephews & nieces and a host of friends. (obit from a Clinton, MO newspaper)
