Dale Gordon Edward Braatz , 86 died unexpectedly Monday afternoon at his longtime Schofield home. He was born October 14, 1925 in Schofield, Wisconsin the son of the late Edward and Linda (Sala) Braatz he was the last of the three Schofield "Braatz Boys."

He enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 to join his two brothers in fighting for America's freedom in World War II, serving in the South Pacific as a Storekeeper on the aircraft carrier USS Saginaw Bay (CVE-82). He served in US Navy Reserve following the war. He was awarded the Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal with five stars, Americian Area Camipaign Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one star.

He graduated from Wausau High School in 1947 and married Carla Ridderbush in May of 1949 and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1999.

He was a papermaker all his life and retired from Weyerhauser Paper Company in Rothschild in 1978.

Braatz was a member of the Schofield Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years and was a former member of the Schofield City Council.

He was a life member of the RSW Veterans of Foreign Wars, member and past Commander of the Roy L. Drew American Legion Post and member of Peace United Church of Christ for over 60 years and Senior Counselor of Wausau Council #217 United Commercial Travelers of America.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carla and Son Edward, his brothers Jule and Darrell Braatz and a great-grand daughter Chloe Ann Fisher.

He is survived by his daughter Wendy (Bernard) Fisher of Wausau, his son Patrick D. Braatz of Beaverton, Oregon, his two grandsons Christopher (Susan) Fisher of Green Bay, Craig (Jennifer) Fisher of Appleton and his four great-great grandchildren Garrett, Natalie, Noah and Vanessa Fisher. brother-in-law and sister-in-law William and Mary Ridderbush of Crivitz and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews as well as a special friend and companion Lorraine Nunemann of Apache Junction, Arizona.
