Dorothy Ruth Boyer. 80 , died
Sunday , Jan. 27 . 1991 , at St.
Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Centerville.
Her death followed a heart attack
on Wednesday. While she lingered
under hospital care, she
warmly received her husband, her
children and grandchildren at her
bedside.
The Daughter of John and Lucy
(Lord) Martindale, she was born
Aug. 22, 1910. in Des Moines.
She trusted Jesus Christ as her Lord
and Savior when she was 12 years
old. Currently, she was a member
of the Drake Avenue Christian
Church in Centerville.
She graduated from Roosevelt
High School in Des Moines in
1928. She majored in home eco ­
nomics at Simpson College in Indianola
for two years, then went to
work for Union Mutual Insurance
Co. of Des Moines. '
She was married to Preston Earl
Boyer of the Moravia area on July
1, 1933. In 1942, they came back
and engaged in farming in Taylor
Township. Mrs. Boyer helped
organize the Taylor Aid Women's
Club and the Taylor-ettes 4-H club.
She was a 4-H committee woman
and club leader for many years and
managed the 4-H food stand at the
Appanoose County Fair for 15
years. She discontinued her 4-H
work in 1972. She was a charter
member of the Moravia Garden
Club and a member of the Ap- ­
panoose County Historical Society.
She supported Mr. Boyer's work
on the Board of Directors for the
Rural electric Cooperative for a period
of 37 years until he retired
from the board in 1982.
Mrs. Boyer operated a craft shop
from her farm home and during her
lifetime made hundreds of dolls and
other craft items. She enjoyed taking
her things to craft shows until
just the last few years. To her customers
she was known as the "doll
lady."
She was preceded in death by one
brother, James Martindale and one
sister, Jeanctte H. Pearson, both of
Des Moines.
Surviving are her husband; one
brother John Wendell Martindale of
Akron , Ohio and four children .
Carolyn Stober of Talledaga , Al.:
Kenneth of Rochester. Minn.;
Ronald of Edinburg. III. and Judy
Lamb of rural Moravia : 10 grandchildren
and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1
p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 1991 at
the Drake Avenue Christian Church
in Centerville with the Rev. Carl
Heien officiating. Interment will be
in the Main Station Cemetery .
Friends may visit with the family
between 7 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday
Memorials may be made to the
Drake Avenue Christian Church or
the Appanoose Historical Society.
