Born in Nolan County, Texas, April 25, 1908, Iona Boyd Adamsmof Camarillo died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004. Her death followed a brief illness, at age 95.
Iona graduated from Abilene Christian College in Abilene, Texas, and was a school teacher from 1930 until 1942 at East India School. In 1942, she moved with her late husband, Charley Adams, to El Rio and for more than 22 years worked for Naval Base Ventura County at Port Hueneme (then known as the Construction Battalion Center), retiring as supervisor of distribution. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Oxnard from 1943 until 1960 and then became a founding member in the Church of Christ in Camarillo. Iona was also a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 508, in Ferris, Texas.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Carol Adams of Moorpark; grandchildren, Heather Vickers and her husband, Jason, of Oxnard, and Lt. John Adams, serving in the U.S. Air Force; great-granddaughter, Kaylyn Vickers of Oxnard; brother, Bobby Frank Boyd of Sweetwater, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Iona was laid to rest in Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, by the side of dear husband Charley, who preceded her in death in 1989 ~ "Charlie and Sugarbabe; together again".
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Iona's name to your favorite charity.
