Services for Clayton Dean Boyd, 61, Tyler, will be held on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Stewart Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Linda Owens officiating. Private burial will be at Kendrick Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

Mr. Boyd passed away on Jan. 25, 2009, at his home in Tyler. He was born on Oct. 2, 1947, in Tyler to the late Ray and Thelma Boyd.

He was a 1966 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. After graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. During his service, Dean was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Purple Heart, the Sharpshooter Rifle Medal and the Expert M-60 Medal. After his discharge, he had a 35-year career as a truck driver, working for Southland Corporation, Groendyke Transportation, and Buckley's Transportation. He also served as a reserve officer with the Smith County Sheriff's Department.

Mr. Boyd is survived by a loving family including his wife of 17 years, Jo Ann Boyd of Tyler; two sons, Brad Boyd of Lindale and David Hick of Norfolk, Va.; two daughters, Tammi McAdams of Lindale and Melissa Taylor and husband Nick of Tyler; five granddaughters, Courtney Smith, Kayla Boyd, Kristian Boyd, Britney Boyd, and Erica Boyd; brother, Glen Boyd and wife Brenda of Livingston; and sister, Catherine Graham of Cleveland.

Pallbearers will be Brad Boyd, David Hicks, Nick Taylor, Michael Matney, Scott Underwood, Dave Brunelle and Denver Nixon. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Beddingfield, Lance Brown, Bob Jones and Thurman Murray.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
