Bernice Bowling, age 84, of Shelbina, MO, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO.

She was born February 2, 1931, in Monroe County, MO, the daughter of Dallas and Anna Leola Caldwell Farrell. On June 26, 1954, she was united in marriage to John R. “Dick” Bowling at Shelbina, MO. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2011.

Bernice is survived by three children, two grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, two son-in-laws, one brother, one sister and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, two daughters, Denice Mefford and Joy Bowling and infant sister Linda Sue Farrell.

Bernice was a graduate of Shelbina High School and a member of the Shelbina Christian Church. She was also a member of the Greenwood Extension Club, Shelbina and Hannibal Bowling League and leader for the Lentner 4-H. She was a homemaker and worked for several years with her sisters and sister-in-law in the catering business. She was employed by Shelby County R-IV as a cook and dishwasher, C & R Market for over 25 years and Shelbina Post Office. Bernice was a great cook and her love for her family was very evident. She cherished the time she spent with them and especially her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO, with burial to follow in Shelbina Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, July 31, 2015, at the Funeral Home in Shelbina. Memorials may be made to Neighbors Helping Neighbors or Donor’s Choice.
