Sam Bowles served in Company B. 803 U.S. Pioneer Infantry in World War One.

He enlisted on Aug 1, 1918 and went to Camp Grant, IL for training, and the regiment went to France in Sept 1918 and served wit the 2nd Army in Oct-Nov 1918. After the Armistice they served in the Army of Occupation. They returned home to Camp Grant in July 1919 where Sam was Honorably Discharged on July 25, 1919.

In the 1940 census of Chicago, IL he is listed as a night watchman and when he registered for the draft in World War II he stated he was 48 years old residing at 3636 Dearborn, Chicago and was employed by the Works Progress Administration.

Sam died on Jan 19, 1951 and a government headstone was shipped to Burr Oak Cemetery to mark his grave as a veteran.
