A.L. Bowen was born October 12, 1932 in Goodman, Oklahoma to Ordis and Lennie (Ashley) Bowen; he died Friday, January 21, 2011 at his home in Brown, Oklahoma. At the age of 78 years 3 months and 9 days.
A.L. attended Cobb school. He married Betty Ruth Harlin on October 18, 1958 in Durant, Oklahoma. A.L. was a man of strong conviction. His family and his Lord were his priorities. He worked hard to provide life's necessities every day, except Sunday. Rarely missed a church service, even during harvest, once or twice maybe to keep the crows out of the peanuts. From a meat counter butcher at the local Green Spray Grocery to a carpenter, a farmer and a rancher raising cattle, peanuts, maize, cotton and two kids.
He was a Baptist deacon since 1967 at the Brown Baptist church, always awaible for whatever needed to be done, making building repairs or inviting the preacher home for lunch on Sunday. Very giving of his time, money and care, speaking volumes of love to those in need. In later years he joined forces with his son to start a manufacturing business and expanding as they went. When he decided it was time to retire, it took him two times to make it happen. He soon discovered what it was like to stay at home every day, instead of getting up early for work he often said he got to know Betty finally after all those years! A few years ago he suffered a stroke and an increased loss of eyesight.
His favorite daily trip to Braums for breakfast became his mission. He spent his last day with his family close around him until the Lord called him Home.
A.L. is survived by his wife Betty of the home, daughter: DeAnn Sheffield, of Durant, Oklahoma, son: Dennis Bowen and wife Pam of Brown, Oklahoma, brother O.D. Bowen of Durant, Oklahoma, sisters: Elsa Sexton and husband Don Of Calera, Ok lahoma & Mary Perkins of Sachee, Texas, grandsons Dustin Bowen and wife Courtney of Silo, Oklahoma, Derek Bowen of Brown ,Oklahoma and Dillon Bowen of Brown, Oklahoma.
