(2nd) Company C "Craig Mountain Boys" of Craig County, 28th Virginia Infantry, Hunton's Brigade, Pickett's Division, 1st Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Residence: Sinking Creek, Craig County, VA; 29 year-old farmer; 5' 10"; dark complexion, dark eyes, dark hair.
Enlisted for 1 year's service on 5/10/1861 at New Castle, Craig County, VA, he traveled to Lynchburg, VA, where on 5/29/1861 he was mustered into Captain Michael Spessard's Company, 28th Virginia Infantry, as 2nd Corporal. [This company subsequently became (2nd) Company C, 28th Virginia Infantry.]
Elected/Promoted to 3rd Lieutenant 1/25/1862.
Promoted to 2nd Lieutenant, Commanding, 5/1862.
Present on all Rolls from enlistment until Absent, Sick on March & April, May & June, July & Aug 1863 Rolls; hospitalized 3/15/1863 in C.S.A. General Hospital, Farmville, VA, with "spinal affliction".
Promoted to Captain 9/1863.
Present on all subsequent Rolls until POW 4/6/1865 in Battle of High Bridge, VA; confined 4/14/1865 City Point, VA; transferred 4/14/1863 to Old Capitol Prison, Wash., D.C.; sent 5/11/1865 to Johnson's Island, OH; confined 5/13/1865 Sandusky, OH, where he took Oath of Allegiance 6/18/1865 and released.
Accidentally killed by a train en route home at Pittsburgh, PA, in 1865.

The 28th Infantry Regiment completed its organization at Lynchburg, Virginia, in June, 1861. Its members were raised in the counties of Botetourt, Craig, Bedford, Campbell, and Roanoke.
