William L. Bowden, 55, of 1117 Loraine Ave., was dead on arrival at 8:05 p.m. Friday at St. Francis Hospital of an apparent heart attack.

He was born in New Castle April 27, 1919, to the late Ralph and Mary Walters Bowden. He had retired on a disablility from the maintenance department of Rockwell International Transmission and Axle Division.

Mr. Bowden was a member of Dewey Avenue Free Methodist Church and was an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, the former Velma Cooper, whom he married Feb. 5, 1939; two sons: Charles L of New Castle and William R. of Brunswick, Md.; five daughters, Mrs. Gerry (Carol) McFall of Volant, Mrs. Herb (Gladys) Brest, Shirley, Cathy and Donna Ann, all of New Castle; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Foltz and Mrs. Fred (Virginia) Stelter, both of New Castle; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Mina Brest, and a sister, Mrs. Gladys Leonhart.

Friends will be received at the Edward A. DeCarbo and Son Funeral Home, S. Mill and E. Lutton streets, from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. The service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home by the Rev. Ross Hammond of the church. Burial will be in Savannah cemetery.
