Elvin C. Bowden, 85, of the Old Butler Rd., died at 4:55 a.m. today in the Jameson Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in Lobett County, Kansas, March 31, 1882, to the late Leonard W. and Mary Copper Bowden. He was a retired farmer. His wife, the former Elizabeth Lusher, died in 1955.
Mr. Bowden was a member of East Brook UP church where he was a trustee. He was a member of East Brook Grange.

Surviving are two sons, Willard M. of Cleveland and Clarence L. of State Rd.; a daughter, Mrs. Norman (Alice) Cotton of the Harlansburg Rd.; a sister, Mrs. Ettie Hobel of New Castle; and eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Ralph and Charles; and three sisters, Mrs. Nannie Newton, Mrs. Mary Brown and Annie Bowden.

Friends will be received at the Robert A. Myers Home for funerals, 208 N. Jefferson St., from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. The service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home by Rev. Robert Downs of East Brook UP Church. Interment will be in East Brook UP Church cemetery.
