Betty Louise Bossie, 78, of St. Albans passed away at Hubbard Hospice House on September 6, 2009, after an unexpectedly short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Arnold G. Bossie, a brief two months before her own passing. Betty was born in Frame and was raised in South Charleston. She graduated from South Charleston High School, where she jokingly remembered studying "boys." She maintained close ties to her hometown, where she was often seen visiting with old friends at lunch at Leonard's Drug Store. She was retired from Bert Wolfe Ford. Betty had an insatiable curiosity about people that combined with an astounding memory for detail. She was the type of person who could walk into a gathering in a distant community and immediately recognize at least one person. In later years, she loved to socialize at the Elk Community Center or the St. Albans Moose, where she and Arnold became a familiar couple. The friendships that they made helped sustain Betty as she lovingly cared for Arnold during his extended illness. Inseparable in life, it is not surprising that they departed this life together. Betty was also preceded in death by her parents, Clarence "Doc" & Ethel Moles Carte. She is survived by her brother & sister-in-law, Bob & Jo Carte of Ocala, FL; and her niece, Pam Carte of Charleston. While Betty had a small immediate family, her extended family and friends were genuinely treasured. She was the hub of her network. Her quick wit, outgoing personality and unabashed honesty will be missed by all who loved her. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 10, at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans, with the Pastor Dorris Walls officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In appreciation for their help and support, Betty's family sincerely requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W., Charleston, WV 25212-2536. Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, 409 Sixth Ave., St. Albans, is in charge of arrangements.
