Ina Francis Sasseen, 88, of Packwood, passed away at 11:20 p.m. Feb. 12, 2010, at Pleasantview Home in Kalona, Iowa.She was born Aug. 13, 1921, near Linby, Iowa, to Clarence and Lucy Francis Clingman Book. Ina graduated from Packwood High School in 1939. She worked in a defense plant in California before and during World War II. Ina married William Russell Sasseen in Fairfield on Oct. 26, 1945. He died Feb. 25, 1996. She was active in the Linby Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star in Richland for many years and was a homemaker living in Packwood since 1945.She is survived by one son, John (Mary) Sasseen of Arlington Texas; four daughters, Sandy Vogel of Indianola, Donna Sasseen of Iowa City, Debbie (Randy) Wonderlich of Des Moines, Marty (Virgil) Chandler of Packwood; two stepdaughters, Joyce (Dale) Brown of Jackson, Mo., and Janet (Merle) Farrier of Brighton; 16 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Kay (Marge) Book of Packwood; her brother-in-law, Dale Sasseen of Ottumwa; many nieces, nephews and friends.Ina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years; four sisters, Thelma Hadley, Audrey Hill, Helen Terrance Vroman and LaVon Tuttle, an infant sister and her son-in-law Roger Vogel.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at Gould Funeral Home in Richland with Pastor Danny Cary officiating. Burial will be in Packwood Cemetery.Visitation at the funeral home will open at 3 p.m. Monday. The family will be present 5:30-7 p.m. Monday evening. Memorials to Packwood Volunteer First Responders or the Packwood Volunteer Fire Department may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 317 Cayman St., Iowa City, Iowa 52245.
