Dr. A. E. Bonsteel, of Summitville, committed suicide by shooting himself yesterday afternoon. He died about 8 o'clock this morning.

The doctor was about as usual during the forenoon and made two or three professional calls at Phillipsport and Summitville, returning home about 11 o'clock.

The family thinks the Halliday murder has had a bad effect on him as he has talked much about it.

The funeral will be held Thursday at the late residence, at two o'clock, with burial in Sylvan cemetery at Wurtsboro.

Note: The Halliday murder refers to the case of Lizzie Halliday of Burlingham, who allegedly brutally murdered her aged husband and buried him under a floorboard of their home. She was also accused of the murder of a mother and daughter from Newburgh, whose bodies she hid under a pile of hay and manure in her barn. The case had been much in the news during the first two weeks of September 1893.
