The son of Elizabeth Bond, he married Elizabeth Hedrick September 29, 1859, in Hopewell Township, York County, Pennsylvania, and fathered Charles Wilford (b. 03/28/61). in 1860 he was a blacksmith living in Hopewell Township and stood 5' 6" tall with brown hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he served two terms of service:
1. Drafted in York County November 9, 1862, mustered into federal service at York November 11 as a private with Co. I, 166th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), promoted to corporal in early December and to sergeant December 21, and honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863, in York.
2. Enlisted in York February 20, 1864, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg February 27 as a private with Battery F, 3rd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (152nd Pa), and honorably discharged with his battery November 9, 1865.

In 1890, he was living in York where he died at his son Charles' Queen Street home.
