Rosa Lee Bolling Gilley, 78, died peacefully on Sunday morning, February 21, 1999, at her son's residence following an extended illness.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Palatka. She was the daughter of the late Fred O'Connor and Isabella "Bella" Doby Bolling. She was a 1940 graduate of Central Academy and received her degree from the School of Beauty in Washington, D.C. She was a State of Florida Licensed Beautician practicing in Palatka for over 35 years. She was a member of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church. In her latter years she lost her sight, but through her loving heart her vision was brilliant and bright.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Herbert Gilley; sister, Myrtle McCloud; and her brother, Fred Elmer Bolling preceded her in death.
To cherish her memories are her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth E. and Vandine Thornton of Palatka; granddaughter, Beverly A. Thornton of Baltimore, Md.; grandson, Jeremy G. Thornton of Palatka; great-grandaughter, Koreen Woodward Thornton of San Mateo; brother-in-law, deacon Edward (Ida) Gilley of Palatka; her son Kenneth's brothers and sisters, Mary (Columbus) George of Palatka, John (Linda) Thornton and Marc Thornton, all of East Orange, N.J., Harold (Beverly) Thornton and Peggy Thornton, all of Southfield, Mich., Sharon (Larry) Wells of Sharon, Ma.; a host of nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 2 p.m. at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, Rev. Karl N. Flagg, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Gilley's family plot at Evergreen Cemetery.
Flagg-Serenity Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd 26 Feb 1999.)
