Born in Wenatchee WA, Aug 16th 1924 to John Clayton Bolinger, Sr. and Sarah Buchanan Bolinger, John grew up in Wenatchee, and often visited the family homestead in Methow, WA, Loon Lake and Lake Chelan. He graduated from Olympia High School, and then entered the University of Washington in 1942, joining the Psi Upsilon fraternity where he met Susan Wilson, (his wife of 56 years), during a fraternity exchange with the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
During John's freshman year he enlisted in a Naval Aviation program. His Corsair pilot training took him around the country up to the cessation of WWII. He received his commission and wings in April 1945, and was honorably discharged that November, later serving in the Naval Reserves.
After graduating from the University of WA in 1948 with a degree in Political Science, John and Sue were married. They lived most of their lives in Bellevue WA, while John worked for The Boeing Company in Contract Administration. He loved his work and was able to travel the world with Boeing for 28 years until his retirement.
After retirement, he & Sue wintered with John's sister's family in Palm Desert. Susan preceded him in death in 2004.
John pursued many interests: For years, he volunteered leading tours at the Boeing Flight Aviation Center in Everett as well as being a volunteer usher for the BNP Paribas Open Tennis Tournament in Indian Wells, CA. John maintained good physical condition all of his life. As an avid runner (as well as a statistician), he logged over 27,500 miles since 1969. He also exercised regularly with his many friends from LA Fitness.
John is survived by his close and loving family: Daughter, Carolyn Bolinger Teodoro (Dick) and son, Mark Richards Bolinger (Joan); 5 grandchildren: Michelle Teodoro Van Someren (Chad), Scott Teodoro (Erica), Brett Teodoro (Kate), Clayton Bolinger and Bridget Bolinger Shiroky (Bob); and 9 great grandchildren who loved "Gramps." He will be greatly missed by his sister, Barbara Crabtree, as well as nieces, a nephew & cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at Sunset Hills Memorial Park, 1215 145th Pl. SE, in Bellevue, WA on Tuesday, August 23rd at 10:30am.
