John Christian (went by Christian) Boewe was born at Wannsfield, Germany. He married Mary Louisa (went by Louise) Knust (1849-1934) in c1868. Mary is buried with Christian at West Salem Moravian.

John and Mary were reportedly the parents of 13 children, the names of whom 8 are known, namely:

1. Amos W. Boewe (1870-1889)
2. Simon Rudolph Boewe (1877-1931)
3. William O. Boewe (1878-1878)
4. Helene Laura Boewe Matheson (1880-???)
5. Mary Caroline "Carrie" Boewe Rothrock (1882-1955)
6. Ernest Fred Boewe (1884-1972)
7. Herbert J. Boewe (1886-1963)
8. Albert Mason Boewe (1892-1950)

In 1900 Christian, Louise and six living children were living at Bone Gap, Edwards County, Illinois. Louise said she was the mother of thirteen, six living. Thus five children who probably died young are missing from the above listing.
