Elvera R."Vera" Bodette, 84, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away Monday, January 28, 2008, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Moorenweis, Germany to Ludwig and Mary (Hoiss) Lorenz, she married William "Bill" Sloan who preceded her in death and later married Joseph A Bodette and enjoyed many years of wedded bliss. Vera graduated from nursing school and joined the Army, where she aspired to the rank of 1st Lieutenant during World War II. She later worked as an RN at the William Roche Hospital and Byrnebrook Nursing Home. Vera enjoyed camping with her family. She spent many afternoons tending to her flowers and gardening. She loved to paint and was an avid collector of glassware and treasures. Vera volunteered for numerous charitable organizations. Upon retirement in 1985, she spent her time babysitting for her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Vera was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help and the Sylvania Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, her second husband, Joseph Alfred Bodette and sister, Caroline Miller. Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Mary Ann (Charles) Ankenbrandt of Maumee, OH and Becky Bodette of Washington Twp., OH; son, Robert (Angie) W. Sloan of Tiffin, OH; grand-children, Matthew (April) Ankenbrandt, Dan Sloan, Robert (Kelly) Mefford, Amanda Ankenbrandt, Andrew Ankenbrandt, Harley Sloan and Dylan Sloan; great-grandchildren, Tristin and Jozie Ankenbrandt and Spencer Mefford; sister, Marie Bremer of Maumee, OH and brother, Erwin (Lin) Lorenz of Toledo. The family wishes to express there sincere thanks to Hospice of Northwest, Toledo for their compassionate care of Vera. Friends may join the family on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main Street, Sylvania, OH, from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. for visitation. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sylvania, OH on Thursday, January 31 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
