Born in Moberly, Mo. to Etta Mae Cavender Barclay and William Ellis Barclay, she attended Moberly Junior College gaining her AA before going to work as a journalist. While the Society editor for the Key West Citizen, she met her future husband U.S. Naval Officer Robert H. Blount. Married in 1951, they lived a happy, if gypsy life, moving all over the US, its territories and Central America. Retiring in 1982, Adm. Blount and Jeannette set down roots in Norfolk, Va. where she went on to obtain her BA degree in Art History, work on her Masters, and serve on the Boards of the Norfolk Opera, the Chrysler Museum, and the Norfolk Forum. She is much missed by daughters Barbara Blount-Powell and Jennifer Blount Sanford.
