MRS. J. S. BLOCH SUCCUMBS HERE

Widow Of Former Prominent Citizen Dies After Brief Illness.

Mrs. Lena Kuhn Bloch, 75, widow of Jacob S. Bloch, died in a local hospital Thursday at 3:20 a.m., after a three-week illness.

The funeral will be held at the residence, 215 Hudson Lane, Friday at 3 p.m. Rabbi F. K. Hirsch, of Temple B'Nai Israel, will officiate with interment in the Jewish Cemetery, with the Peters Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Henry Haas, Abe Arent, E. L. Neville, Paul Fudickar, W. C. Oliver, Sam Rubin and Walker Glenn, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be all friends of the family.

Mrs. Bloch was born in Vicksburg, Miss., and was a duaghter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Kuhn. When a small child her parents moved to Monroe and she has resided here continuously ever since. After receiving her education in the public schools here, she was married to Jacob S. Bloch, who was for years one of the most prominent local residents. He operated an extensive retial and wholesale liquor business and is said to have been the one to originate the plan of mail order selling of his product. Others saw a new field for activity and in a short time, Monroe became known for its extensive mail order business in spiritous liqours.

Mr. Bloch served through the Forsythe and Herring administrations as member of the city council of Monroe, was a director of the Ouachita National Bank and was interested in many other important local institutions. His death occurred nine years ago.

Mrs. Bloch has been for years deeply interested in affairs of B'Nai Israel synagogue, including the Sisterhood, Cemetery Care group and other branches of religious activity. She was possessed of a kind and generous nature and made a wide circle of friends.

Mrs. Bloch's most immediate relatives surviving are three brothers who are Lee and Gus Kuhn, both of Monroe; and Laz Kuhn of Memphis, Tenn.
