William was married to Elizabeth Day in 1870 in Tralee, Co. Kerry, England, and they had two daughters. They immigrated to New Zealand in 1875.
William owned stores in Otakeho, Etham, and Mangatoki, New Zealand selling general merchandise.
William was murdered on 31 Dec. 1901 along with his nephew William Harold "Long William" Blennerhassett (who was also his son-in-law). It was over a quarrel about property. The man responsible, William Hill, a relative aged 52, then shot himself.
