Ronald Gordon "Ron" Blanton, 59, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at his home after an extended illness.

Mr. Blanton was born Aug. 3, 1941, in Knoxville.

He retired in 1991 from Martin Marietta Energy Systems as a barrier operator at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.

Mr. Blanton was an avid fan of the Oak Ridge Wildcats and the University of Tennessee football team. He enjoyed woodworking, motorcycle riding, bowling and camping. He attended Temple Baptist Church in Powell.

He and his wife, Patricia Riordan Blanton, who survives him, would have celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on Dec. 22.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Blanton is survived by his son, Jason Blanton of Oak Ridge; his daughters, Traci Francis and Barbara Blair and her husband, James, all of Oak Ridge; his mother, Lee Wright Blanton of Oak Ridge; his brother, Bob Blanton and his wife, Brenda, of Corryton; and his sister, Pat Shelton and her husband, Jerry, of Seymour.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Wesley Blair and Sara Blair, both of Oak Ridge, and Derrick Francis of Maryville; and by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Blanton's father, Elbert G. Blanton, died July 5, 1997.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Nov. 20, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Benny Miller and the Rev. Keith Kiser officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Building Fund of Crown College, c/o Temple Baptist Church, 1700 W. Beaver Creek Drive, Powell, TN 37849.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the mortuary.
