He returned to Montrose and married Evelyn Marolf in 1955. Harold went to work for DeVinny Jewelers for many years doing watch and jewelry repair until his retirement. Harold was an active member of the Masonic Lodge #63 in Montrose since Feb. 28, 1961 when he joined. He served as worshipful master of the lodge in 1967, and had served as secretary of the Masonic Lodge for 29 years, from 1969 to 1998. His special interests were hunting, fishing, building and flying model airplanes. He also enjoyed hunting for arrowheads. Harold loved spending time with his family and was active in their school and sporting events. He will be especially missed by them.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Blanchard of the family home; two daughters, Linda (Bill) Harris of Pendleton, Ore. and Sharon (Tom) Bacus of Montrose; one son, Alan Blanchard of Montrose; one sister, Ellen Knight of Brownsville, Ore.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Harold was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service in celebration of Harold’s life will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Delta Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, In Memory of Harold Blanchard, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402.
