Military Service: Blanchard, Ruben 1758-1790 Pvt. Cont. Line
Note:
"Ruben Blanchard, in 1777, when barely 19, married Sarah Cartledge, age 15. In that same year, 1777, Ruben blanchard enlisted in the Revolutionary Army. He served six years never returning even one time, and when he finally came home he and his wife didn't recognize each other. He took part in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse and various other battles and skirmishes. After the war he and his wife settled in Columbia County, Georgia, and died there. Authority for service, Third annual Report of the Daughters of the American Revolution to the Smithsonian Institute p. 348, Georgia soldiers of the Line Revolutionary War. Certified by Phillip Cook, Secretary of State, 4th of January 1901.
According to the records of the late Mr. Albert Guillebeau, genealogist of Lincolnton, Georgia:
Ruben Blanchard, the progenitor of the Blanchard family in Columbia County, Georgia and his wife, Sarah Cartledge, were natives of North Carolina. She was born November 25, 1763, a daughter of Edmund Cartledge. Ruben and Sarah were married in North Carolina and they, with the Cartledge family emigrated to Georgia, about the time of the American Revolution."
The above quote was lifted verbatim from the book "A History of Blanchard and Allied Families" by Marion Bailey Brunson (in collobration with Love Blanchard Fleming) and published in
1970.
Notice the two different spellings of Ruben/Reuben. The name, "Ruben", came from the above mentioned book and the name, " Reuben" came from actual court records which lends more credence to the fact that this was the way he actually spelled it. See below.

1809 April 13, Sarah Blanchard [appointed] to James Blanchard, she being the widow of Reuben Blanchard, died; Jeremiah Blanchard; Uriah Blanchard, Ezekiel Reed, (who married Sarah Blanchard); only surviving heirs of said Reuben and Jeremiah Blanchard, who married Mary, only surviving daughter and heir of Robert Blanchard; appoint James Blanchard, Att'y to recover from Administrators of Noah Hinton, all property to which we are entitled, as heirs and representatives of Robert and Reuben Blanchard who were heirs of Benjamin Blanchard who intermarried with Sarah Hinton, sister of said Noah Hinton.
