He as the son of Rev. Samuel Vinton Blake (1813-1871) of Maryland and Mary Clare Watkins (1820-May 14, 1854).

Rev. J.H. Blake Succumbs At 74
Was Rector for 22 Years of Christ Protestant Episcopal Church, Georgetown
Rev. James H. Blake, 74 years old, rector emeritus of Christ Episcopal Church, Georgetown, where he served as rector for 22 years, died at his residence, 1731 Twentieth Street, today. He had been in failing health for several years.

Dr. Blake was a native of Annapolis, Maryland. He was educated at Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He came to this city from Akron, Ohio, where he was rector for six years. He also had charge at several other places in the Middle West. He retired four years ago.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Giddings Blake, two daughters, Mrs. Duncan Bradley and Miss Frances E. Blake, both of this city and a son, James Vinton Blake of Akron.

Funeral services will be held at Christ Church at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, with Right Rev. James E. Freeman, Bishop of Washington, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
