Dies at 84
David. Blake, 84, of 265
South Rutland street, a retired
engineer with the New
York Cenrtal railroad, died
on his 84th birthday Sunday
at 4:50 p.m. at Mercy hospital
where he had been a patient
since Feb. 18.
Mr. Blake was first admitted
to the hospital Nov. 15,
1965, and became a patient at
the Madonna home last Dec.
24.
There will be a prayer
service at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday
at the Cummings funeral
home and requiem mass at 10
at Holy Family church. Burial
will be in Glenwood cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral
home this evening from
7 to 9 and Tuesday afternoon
and evening from 3 to 5 and
7 to 9.
Mr. Blake is survived by a
daughter, Sister Mary David,
C.S.J., the former Laura
Blake, Utica; a son, Edward
J. Blake, 365 South Rutland
street; six grandchildren, and
two sisters, Mrs. Martin H
(Mary) Putnam, 412 Holcomb
street, and Mrs. Thomas J
(Catherine) Neary, Rochester
Mr. Blake was born in Belfast,
Ireland, April 10, 1882,
son of Edward J. and Martha
O'Neil Blake. He married
Miss Anna Duggin in Belfast,
Feb. 16, 1906. The Blakes
came to the U.S. after their
marriage and lived in Og
densburg for a year before
moving to Watertown.
The couple lived at 322
South Massey street. Mr.
Blake was employed on the
St. Lawrence division of the
New York Central, serving
mainly as a locomotive engineer,
for 32 years. Mrs.
Blake died Nov. 18, 1938.
Mr. Blake retired in 1947
and since that time spent
winters at St. Petersburg,
Fla., and the rest of the year
with his son on Rutland
street.
He was a member of the
Holy Name society of Holy
Family church and St. Mary's
church, St. Petersburgh. He
was also a former member of
the Fourth degree, Knights
of Columbus, and the Ogdensburg
Elks club.
Mr. Blake was an honorary
life member of the Council,
259, Knights of Columbus.
