Shelbern Lee Blake, 90, of Rt. 1, Fayetteville, W.Va., died on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at Hidden Valley Nursing and Rehab Center in Oak Hill, W.Va.

Born Nov. 18, 1917, at Jodie, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lonnie Shelburn and Edna Viola Johnson Blake.

He was a retired loader operator for Ranger Fuel.

Mr. Blake was a member of the Gatewood Brethren Church and the UMWA. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Hidden Valley Center for the wonderful care and the love that they showed Poppy.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Lonnie Blake, and a sister, Pearl Elswick.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Mae Manley Blake; four sons, Emmel Blake and wife, Emogene, of Ray City, Ga., Thomas "Tommy" Blake and wife, Tammy, of Parkersburg, W.Va., Edward "Eddie" Blake and wife, Ella, of Rt. 1, Fayetteville, W.Va., and Delbert Blake and wife, Anne, of Halifax, England; three daughters, Deloris Mitchem and husband, Ellis, of Fairdale, W.Va., Judy Helm of Hopewell, Va., Rose Renkovish and husband, Bill, of Oak Hill, W.Va.; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Blake; and an adopted daughter, Melinda Blake of Hopewell, Va.

He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Pastor Joe Cuthbertson, Pastor Robert Pauley, Pastor Scott Lester, and Pastor Tom Blake officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, with military graveside rites by VFW Post #3110 of Oak Hill.

Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
