John Richard Blackwelder, 49, passed on to be with the Lord May 26, 2004.

John was born December 10, 1954 in Massillon, Ohio to Janet and Dwight Blackwelder, Jr. He moved to Sanford, Florida in 1960 and to Fort Pierce in 1963.

John was a cadet at Sanford Naval Academy.

He graduated from Fort Pierce Central High School in 1974, where he received The Most Active Senior Award.

When he was not attending class, he was cooking chicken at the family business or promoting fund raising for March of Dimes or Muscular Dystrophy.

John played the trumpet, was an Explorer Scout, and a member of First Presbyterian Church. John was a past member of The Moose, Jaycees, 4-H of Saint Lucie County and Saint Lucie County Fair Association.

John is survived by his loving sister Jean and brother-in-law Bob Gardner of Fort Pierce, sister Susan Jones of Montana, sister-in-law Chris and brother Dwight Blackwelder, III of Fort Pierce.

John was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Lucile and John Cope of Florida, and his paternal grandparents Marian and Dwight Blackwelder, Sr. of Ohio.
