--Catherine was the first child of Caleb Blackwelder (originally Gottlieb Schwarzwalder) and wife Betsey Phifer. The Blackwelders left Virginia and settled in what is now Cabarrus County in 1760.
--She married John Paul Barringer (original name Johannes Paulus Behringer) about 1777. Their estate was called Poplar Grove. Paul had 2 children from his first marriage who were already grown when Catherine married Paul Barringer. Their union produced 10 children: Paul, Mathias, Martin, Elizabeth, Sarah, Esther, Daniel Laurens, Jacob C., Leah, and Mary Ann "Polly" Barringer.
--Although Catherine was the eldest child of seven, she was the last survivor, living until the age of 91.
