Obituary: THE SAGINAW NEWS, Apr 27, 2005
BECKMAN, JOYCE E., MAPLE GROVE TOWNSHIP Passed away on Monday, April 25, 2005, at the MediLodge of Montrose Nursing Home. Age 71 years. She was born on December 14, 1933 in St. Charles, the daughter of Oscar and Minnie (Frelitz) Blackmer. She married Joseph Beckman on January 13, 1951. He survives her. Joyce had a wonderful will to live life to its fullest. She was involved in many activites throughout her lifetime. Joyce was a member of St. Michael's choir, belonged to the Sunday Sashay's, a square dancing group, coached high school girls basketball at Maple Grove, taught physical education for St. Michael's and enjoyed doing crafts. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening her roses. She was very much involved with each of her grandchildren, especially in their sporting activities. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Beckman; two daughters, Marsha and Mark Palko; Jean and Bill Fountain; one son, Ron and Patty Beckman, all of Chesaning; 11 grandchildren, Scott Weisenberger, Nick Weisenberger, Krystle Weisenberger, Annie Weisenberger, Troy Beckman, Zackary Beckman, all of Chesaning; Donny Beckman and Kim and Wesley Beckman, all of Owosso; Christina (Gerding) and Adam Benfield of Marietta, Georgia; Stephanie (Gerding) and Chris Labadie and Kim Gerding, all of Toccoa, Georgia; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Beckman of Owosso and Kaithlin and Brianna Benfield of Marietta, Georgia; one brother, Gerald (Bud) and Leona Blackmer of Kalkaska; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Jim Beckman on May 2, 1990 and sisters, Eileen Hill, Geraldine Schnebelt, Florence Weber and brothers, Harold, Chuck and Robert and her parents. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Maple Grove. Rev.Fr. Randy Kelly will officiate with burial in St. Michael Cemetery. Friends may call at the Walker-Martin Funeral Home, Chesaning all day Wednesday and at church on Thursday after 10:00 a.m. Scripture service will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to your favorite charity. The family of Joyce Beckman would like to thank Sweeney's AFC Home and Medi Lodge of Montrose for the wonderful care Joyce received during her lengthy illness with Alzheimer's.
