Melba Barbara Belnap, Voice Music Teacher, of Bountiful, Utah, age 79, passed away peacefully Monday, November 22, 2010 at 1:15 p.m. with some of her children around her. She had suffered the effects of Alzheimer's for the last four years and had lived in an enhanced care facility in Utah County the last two and 1/2 years.

She was born on March 2, 1931 in Ogden, Utah, as the first of three daughters to Bryant Byron Black and Melba Douglass Black.

She married Paul Gilbert Belnap on June 19, 1951 in the Logan LDS Temple. After a few years in Glenn's Ferry, Paul and Barbara moved to Boise and then to Utah for Paul's career pursuits with Grand Central Stores.

While raising five children, serving in church callings, many of them in music, she completed a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Music at Weber State College, graduating magna cum laude.

During that time in Roy for a year, Salt Lake City for three years, and finally in Bountiful for the last 35 years, she has taught private singing lessons to thousands of students whom she loved as was beloved.

Widowed September 1, 1983, when her husband was claimed by heart failure, she is survived by her children: Yvonne (Jay) Wirig, of Highland, UT, Ronald Frederic Belnap, of Ft. Worth, TX, Jeffry Paul Belnap, of Orlando, FL, Cherie' (Steve) Packer, of Orem, UT, and Denis William Belnap, of Minneapolis, MN; two sisters: Annette (Robert) Hosking, of Bountiful, UT, and Marcia Black, of Oracle, AZ; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Bountiful 18th and 41st ward chapel, 165 South 1000 East, Bountiful at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 27, 2010. A viewing will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 26, 2010 at Russon Brothers, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah 84010
