Barbara Alline Black Abernathy, 75, of Gainesville died Wednesday at Laurel Bay, Lake Lanier Nursing Home, following an extended illness.

Born in Hall County to the late Thomas E. Black and Alice Brownlow Black, she was an insurance clerk for Leece-Neville Co. and a member of Chicopee United Methodist Church. She also was preceded in death by her husband, O.G. Abernathy Jr.

Survivors include her sons, Glenn Abernathy, Oakwood, and Tommy Abernathy, Snellville; daughters, Sherrie Kuhns, Conyers, and Teresa Waters and Melissa "Micki" Irvin, both of Gainesville; brother, Tom Black, Florida; sisters, Betty Jo Evans, Lula, and Elizabeth Lowe, St. Augustine, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, in the chapel of Ward's Funeral Home. The Rev. Michelle Holtmann will officiate. Burial will be in Red Wine United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chicopee United Methodist Church, No. 5 First Street, Gainesville, GA 30504.
