Sammie Harrison Blackard, a retired process operator at Allied Chemical, died at 5:15 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, at Flannery Oaks Guest House. He was 95, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Valliant, Okla. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by two daughters, Peggy Blackard Langlois and Janell Blackard Brent; two step-daughters, Marion Daigle and Patsy Langhart; son, Thomas Dale Blackard; step-son, Henry LaBarthe; sister, Eunice Raiford; four brothers, Frank Blackard, DrewMc Blackard, Odell Blackard and Otis Blackard; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nathalie Rodriguez Blackard; second wife, Una LaBarthe Blackard; two brothers, Jeff and Willie Blackard; and three sisters, Eddie Mae Shuler, Gaye Stevens Smith and Faye Nichols.

He was a member of Winbourne Avenue Baptist Church and was a graduate of Valliant High School, Valliant, Okla., and a graduate of Baton Rouge Business College. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Live Oak Methodist Gloves Ministry, P.O. Box 709, Watson, LA 70786.
